Overview

Each approval rule will be set up uniquely for a specific project. Therefore, if you have multiple projects, you can use the migrate Approval feature to move Approvals to another project with the same workflow.

1. Access the “Global Page“ module in Jira

  • Look for the 'Apps' menu on the top toolbar and select it.

  • Once click that, a dropdown menu will appear. From the list of options, choose 'Approval for Jira'.

2. Overview of the “Project“ tab in Approval for Jira

  • Selecting this option will navigate you to the screen shown below.

  1. The "Project" tab will display basic information on all projects.

  2. Project search field: This search field allows you to find projects by name, key, or ID.

  3. Project Type Filter: This filter enables you to categorize projects based on their type, such as software, service desk, business, or product discovery.

  • Upon clicking a project's name, you will be redirected to the project's specific Approval Configuration screen.

  • This screen allows you to configure Approvals, similar to the Approval for Jira application within the project.

3. Overview of the “Migration“ tab in Approval for Jira

  1. The “Migration“ tab shows all the settings that need to be set up to migrate approvals.

  2. There are two options for migrating approval rules to the new project.

    1. Migrate all approval rules: This setup allows for the migration of all approval rules from the source project to the destination project.

    2. Migrate for specific issue types: This setup enables the migration of approval rules from the source project to the destination project for specific issue types.

  3. Migration Log: Tracks approval migration log.

Migrate all approval rules

  1. Source Project Selector: Select the project from which you wish to migrate approval rules.

  2. Destination Project Selector: Choose the project to which you want to migrate approval rules.

Note:

  1. Both projects must use the same workflow scheme and issue type scheme.

  2. The destination project must have no existing approval rules.

Migrate for specific issue types

  1. Setup for Source Project:

Project Selector: Select the project from which you wish to migrate approval rules.

Issue Type Selector: Choose the specific issue types within the source project for which you want to migrate approval rules.

Approval(s) Selector: Select approval(s) associated with the selected issue types that you want to migrate.

  1. Setup for Destination Project:

Project Selector: Choose the project to which you want to migrate approval rules.

Same issue type: This option allows you to migrate approvals where the issue type of the destination project matches the issue type of the source project. Please make sure the source project and destination project must have the same issue type.
Other issue type: This option allows you to specific the issue type you want to migrate to.
